UniJobs Community initiatives November 2009 – Marysville Marathon

As part of our ongoing commitment to support worthy community initiatives, UniJobs was proud to be an integral part of the Marysville Marathon last Sunday in support of the Victorian Bushfire appeal.

Not only was UniJobs on hand to distribute much needed hats to participants and onlookers, but several staff members also took part in the gruelling 42km Marathon in an effort to stoke the fire of community spirit, and successfully contributed much needed revenue for the organiser’s fundraising efforts.

Marysville was among the worst towns damaged by the fire, and soon after flames took hold over 400 homes were destroyed and 34 lives were lost.

As a tribute to the survivors and the deceased, the Marysville community have created a webpage where users can pay respect to those who died, and where residents can obtain information on the cleanup efforts that are still in progress:

Speaking on the event, UniJobs Director Jarrod Kanizay said he was overwhelmed by the support the community has shown since the outbreak of fires in February this year, support that is still continuing to this day.

“I’m not entirely surprised by the volume of support, it says a lot about who we are.

“So much more needs to be done to help survivors and events like this just prove that Australian’s are ready to step up to the plate” he said.

Along with hats, UniJobs was also on hand to help cheer the participant’s home as they crossed the finish line, and provide them with much needed shade and refreshments.

Donations are still able to be made to the Victorian bushfire appeal, and can be lodged through here:
